Movie Watching Mood…

Movies at movie theatres aren’t a big part of my life…actually, I can’t remember when the last time I went was…(but think it was Lakeview Terrace with Samuel L. Jackson)…so that’s at least a year or more.

But, this week I’ve been in a movie watching mood…Decided to use my ON DEMAND and see what movies were out there…

P.S. I Love You– was the first one…This movie totally rocked!  Hands down – it was one of the best movies I’ve seen in a while.  For one thing – the story and characters were believable and one could “get into the story”.  Made me want to laugh and cry all at the same time.   Absolutely loved the guy who played the lead…Gerard Butler!   Never been much of a fan of Hilary Swank – but, I really liked her in the role.  The guy who played “Denny” on Gray’s  (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) had a role and he was pretty good too.

The Invasionwith Nicole Kidman and Daniel Craig (the new James Bond guy) was my second movie this week… More of a remake of  the original movie “The Invasion of the Body Snatchers” – it was pretty good…and there were some scary parts.  I, of course, have nothing bad to say about any role that Nicole Kidman is in…I’ve always liked her – especially since Practical Magic

Since tonight doesn’t look to promising on television – it might be time for a couple of other movies I’ve missed in recent years…maybe  Little Women,  Disturbia, or The First  Season of Miami Vice.

Then and again I might be flipping through the movies and see something that just grabs me…

Until tomorrow when I draw the name of my winner…

Recent Mail…

I love getting mail!  But, then doesn’t everyone!  Recently my mailbox has brought a few surprises…and  some winnings…

Let’s start with:

blockfrompat

My friend, Pat, decided she was going to give away some blocks.  The only stipulation is that when we make something out of it we need to post something about it… I love the block – the colors are bright and cheerful!  Am thinking I may make a wall hanging for a friend of mine who is expecting in September!

brettonyarn

Over at Romancing the Yarn, my friend, Barbara Bretton, decided to give away some yarn…and I won!  It is:

Soie Bambou; 65% Silk/35% Bamboo; 680 yards; 223 stitches = 4″; color: 6239 Celadon Green.  I’m thinking pretty, lacey scarf.  Yea!

Oh, and if you haven’t read Casting Spells by her, you might want to give it a go.  Pretty good book!

mariefbook

For years I have been entering the writers contests over at Writers Space and I actually won.  I didn’t realize I had until the book arrived at my door.   A Doctor’s Secret by Marie Ferrarella is a Mills and Boon Intrique (Harlequin’s branch across the big pond) and I do like books with a bit of mystery and romance.  It’s next on the to-be-read stack!

bagfromsheree

And, last but not least – the beautiful shopping bag from Sheree.  It is a nice size bag to use for shopping.  The bag is made out of linen and then has this great flower appliqued on with the center being a neat button…Really like this bag.  She makes great bags among other things and is a really nice person.  Her blog is a lot of fun!

So that is how my Saturday is going!  How about you?

Friday Fill-ins #126…

1. It’s cold and damp and dreary!  I thought summer was supposed to be here!

2. Fried Green tomatoes.  They are especially good when cut thin, dredged in flour, egg mixture, flour, fried crisp and then covered with shredded cheese!

3. My favorite health and beauty product is Aveeno Active Naturals Stress Relief Moisturizing Lotion.

4. I would love to go on a nice long ride.

5. Well, first of all you have to start at the beginning.

6. Some former co-workers; those were the cast of characters in a recent dream and it was awful!  More like a nightmare.

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I’m looking forward to sewing on a project for my kitchen swap partner, tomorrow my plans include finishing everything up for the swap and getting it ready to mail and Sunday, I want to relax after going to church.

Quilt Show…

Sunday afternoon was wonderful and full of inspiration.  Northern Lights Quilt Guild had there quilt show (and since it is only held every other year – you just have to go)!

There were a lot of beautiful quilts…it seemed like every time you turned a corner there was one that was more beautiful than the other.

These were some of the small landscape quilts…

nlshow4

This was called “GO FISH” – the turquoise fabric was beautiful!  And, the fish – great!  It just grabbed you when you turned the corner!

nlshow5

My friend, Colleen, entered this quilt.  It is made with shirting as the backgrounds for the nine patches!  Very simple and yet it was so elegant looking!

nlshow8

Batiks and Black!

nlshow6You’ve heard me say I am cutting 2″ squares of florals – well, this is the quilt I want to make when I get 169 squares cut!  It is applique…but, it is gorgeous in person!

nlshow11

More batiks … they were everywhere this year!

nlshow12

I have to say – I think this was my favorite quilt…not only is the quilting beautiful but each one of those leaves is pieced!  It was just stunning!

nlshow14Of course, this was another favorite – you know of my love for scrap quilts – and this one was beautiful!

I have to say there was not an ugly quilt in the show!  And, did I come home inspired.  Hope these quilts inspire you!

The Simple Woman's Daybook…

FOR TODAY …  May 25, 2009

Outside my window…it is beautiful.  The sun is shining and there is a  nice little breeze blowing.

I am thinking…what a small world it really is!  Yesterday I walked into church and this woman said to me – “I know you – you’re a knitter.”    “Yes”, I said not at all recognizing her.  Seems she and I are on Ravelry and we are planning on attending the same camping knitting week-end…Krista, it was great meeting you face to face…who would have known that we went to the same small church!

I am thankful for…all those who have died serving our country…and those who continue to serve to make sure we live the life we live!

From the learning rooms…Still learning how to say “NO” – it is hard for someone like me who always wants to please people…but, I am getting there!

From the kitchen…today, went to a cookout at a friend’s house…had hot dogs,  sweet Italian sausage, tomato pie (which was my contribution), and brownies for dessert.   It was fun and good.   Haven’t even given a second thought to this week’s menu!

I am wearing…white socks, black shorts, and a white tee-shirt with horses on it that says “New Hampshire”

I am creating…another little gift for my kitchen swap partner

I am going…to visit Mom this week and at the same time take a look at the painted water buffalo that are on display in New London.

I am reading…Winter Games by John Lacombe

I am hoping…that there will be a bread baking class at King Arthur’s Flour in the near future.

I am hearing…very little outside – hardly any car noises – and Oprah talking in the background.

Around the house…it is so nice to notice all my photos, gifts, quilts, and the little things that make a house a home looking back at me from the walls or surfaces on which they sit.  Each one brings a reminder of someone special.

One of my favorite things…was going to the quilt show this week-end…It was awesome!  So many beautiful quilts and such cool little workshops!

A few plans for the rest of the week:  no real plans for this week – have nothing other than dinner with a friend on Tuesday on the calendar…and I think I like that!

Here is picture thought I am sharing…

tdbqyuilt

This is a photo of the quilt I made for my daughter as her Christmas present this past year.  I loved making this quilt – none of the colored fabrics are the same…and it is a king size quilt.
