The Simple Woman's Daybook…

FOR TODAY …  August 31, 2009

Outside my window… It is dark…mainly because it is still night time and I am not tired yet.  The weather man has assured me that we are going to have lovely cool days for the next few days and I am very happy to hear that.

I am thinking… that life is really special…and I am enjoying it very much.

I am thankful for… for friends who worry about me and encourage me to take better care of myself.  I am taking better care and learning that eating three meals a day is really the best thing…

From the learning rooms… trying a new pattern for a swiffer cover.  The refills you buy in the store are rather expensive – and I’d rather have a few that I can use and throw into the washer and dryer.

From the kitchen… tomorrow I am having rainbow trout with lemon and walnuts; roasted potatoes, carrots, onions, garlic and parsnips; and some Dove ice cream for dessert.

I am wearing… my nightclothes – which is actually a huge tee-shirt and undies…

I am creating… a new quilt!  I am really excited about this one – and will begin working on it this week.

I am going… to finally get to go to Rhinebeck…for those of you who don’t know what that is – it is the New York Sheep and Wool festival.  I think it is the largest one in New England.  I have been wanting to go ever since I moved to New Hampshire – but, have never gone (and it is only a little over three hours from me…)  It isn’t until October but I am very excited about going!

I am reading… The Coffin Dancer by Jeffery Deaver.  I really enjoy reading his books because he writes a good story – and you learn a lot about forensics…a  subject I have always been curious about.  I think I would have chosen that for a career had I really known about it when I was young.

I am hoping… that my daughter has a safe trip this week on the business trip she is taking.

I am hearing… the sounds of silence in my home…Killian is on the floor glaring at me because he knows it is bedtime…and he can’t figure out why we aren’t lounging.

Around the house… the usual – dusting, doing laundry, doing dishes, running the vacuum!  Those things don’t seem to go away…I don’t understand why!

One of my favorite things… is relaxing with some new videos I picked up…they are music and scenery…One has photos of Ireland; another gorgeous waterfalls; another scenes of the Grand Canyon, and the last one has Zen gardens…The music is lovely and it is nice to take an hour every few days to relax with one of these videos.

A few plans for the rest of the week: am meeting up with Millie’s mom on Wednesday – we are going to a couple of quilt shops and having lunch in Concord.  Millie is a lovely little cat who was saved by a bunch of bloggers who paid for her medical attention when someone found her hurt…Her mom adopted her with the condition that Millie would have her own blog so they could keep up with her.

Here is picture thought I am sharing…

willowbygiftThis is a prize that I won from Willowberry Designs in Australia – My sewing machine will be the best dressed machine at the next sewing day I attend!

felitinggiftThen I also won these wool felting fabrics…am thinking about making a penny rug for the fall.  This was from Thistledown and Company.

Baby Shower…

Yesterday was the baby shower for Lars.  He is adorable!  And, his parents Chris and Mike are just great people.  Not to mention that he has been born into a large and loving extended family.

I mentioned several times that I was working on a baby gift…and I finally finished it.  Actually, I started out with two different gifts – but, the more I knit on the one project – the less I felt it was the right one…So, this is what I made for Lars:

larsgift

It is a little quilt – hand quilted around each of the fish…this is the second quilt I have done like this…and have enjoyed making them.

It was a lovely afternoon spent with friends and getting to share in the birth of such a special little boy!

And…here we go!

1. He was a one of the boys of Camelot…and I think Ted Kennedy gave a lot to the American people.  It is sad to see his journey come to an end.

2. The cool crisp evening air is what I look forward to most this time of year.

3. My best friend knows me better than anyone else.

4. I haven’t been feeling too well for the last couple of weeks and to be honest with you I really need to start taking better care of myself.

5. Appearances can be very decieving!

6. The last person I gave a hug to was my friend, Colleen.

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I’m looking forward to finishing up with the baby gift and getting it wrapped, tomorrow my plans include going to the baby shower and just hanging out at home and Sunday, I want to go to church and then heading home to relax and figure out what projects I need and want to work on next!

You can play here!

Another catch-up day…

I know – I’ve been MIA the past couple of days!  But, the truth of the matter is that I have felt crummy!  Think it started Monday night with a bad piece of sushi along with a couple of days of allergy attacks!  You know the kind where you just don’t sneeze once but ten times in a row and your eyes get all watery!

Then yesterday, I just said the heck with it and went for a ride.  I drove up to Seyon Lodge in Vermont.  The main reason I did was that a group of us are getting together for a knitting week-end.  The Lodge is gorgeous…and it is part of the Vermont State Parks system.  We are going in February – and the entire week-end including food will be $110.00. But, I just wanted to be familiar with where it was and see how long it took to get there…easy peasy ride!

Typical bedroom (most have twin beds) but all have lovely quilts.

The lake!  With chairs to sit on in front of it…(not that we will be sitting out there)

The little trip up there boosted my spirits!  And, I felt even better when I encountered a quilt shop on the way home…picked up four small pieces of fabric…two are for a pillowcase I am making for myself and then two quarter yards of some very pretty batiks.

FOR TODAY …  August 24, 2009

Outside my window… the rain is quietly falling and the skies are dark.  When I listened to the weatherman last night he said we were through with the rain and that we would be getting some “fall-ish” weather this week.  Guess he wasn’t on target with that forecast!

I am thinking… that I haven’t been eating really well these last few days.  It has been so hot that I have not felt like cooking…or even being in the kitchen.  I need to get back in the habit of eating three meals a day!

I am thankful for… friends that care about me and worry when I am not doing well.

From the learning rooms… am practicing my chart reading skills with a new pattern that I finally have decided is going to be my very first shawl.  It is DROPS design 98-21 Shawl with Leaf Pattern.  Plan on making it in Sereknity Yarn and Fiber Sock Options Perfect Sock in the Rock Lobster color.

From the kitchen… nothing to share unless peanut butter and cheese crackers counts.

I am wearing… a tee-shirt and black shorts and am barefoot!

I am creating… a baby gift!  The shower is on Saturday and I hope my project will be finished.  If not it is going on needles!

I am going… to try and get caught up this week on all my e-mail.  Between the heat and my stubborn allergies I haven’t kept up with all my e-mail…and I am afraid I will lose my blog friends from making them feel neglected.

I am reading… Too Late To Say Goodbye by Ann Rule.  She is a really interesting writer and really does a lot of research for her books.

I am hoping… for a break in the weather – my allergies just have about had it this summer…(sorry, if I sound like I am complaining…)

I am hearing… the voice of Ina Garten on the Barefoot Contessa; the sound of the fan running; and Killian snoring. (yes, he snores!)

Around the house… I want to go through some boxes in order to get some things ready for a garage sale on September 12th.

One of my favorite things… reading…it has really taken off this past year…and I am averaging a book every four or five days…there is just something about reading that brings me happiness.

A few plans for the rest of the week:  make a doctor’s appointment; finish the baby gift; finish a quilt top; and get some paperwork done.

Here is picture thought I am sharing…

Sunday, Sunday…

wooltour10blogThis is where I would like to be today…just relaxing and keeping cool…The weather is back and forth between rain and heat…

Scarlett did a nice job at church today…she certainly has a gift for speaking and takes after her mother who was a preacher for a long time.  She was filling in today for our regular minister who was on vacation.

Tonight I am back on the knitting kick…and am getting a lot done on the baby gift…so, I’m back to sitting in front of the fan…Later…

Questions this week are courtesy of my friend, Karen and my cousin, Maribeth. And…here we go!

1. I remember, I remember seeing Bob Seger in an elevator in Dallas or Houston and my friend, Suzanne just talking about the great deal we got on an evening dress at a local sale.  The little boy he was carrying was just chatting away with me about how he was going to have breakfast with daddy. Finally, I asked him if he wasn’t Bob Seger and he said he was!  It was a fun experience.

2. Dear Philadelphia Eagles, I want you to know that I will never again watch your games and I cannot believe that you would hire Michael Vick to play on your team.

3. Is that my kitchen that is such a mess!!???

4. I’m trying to resist the temptation of eating an entire gallon of butter pecan ice cream…I am so craving it.

5. I’m saving a big hug just for you!

6. If I made a birthday list going to a spa for an entire week and having every massage and skin treatment would definitely be on it!!!

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I’m looking forward to (Friday) reading, tomorrow my plans include going to get milk, whipped cream, and shells to make strawberry shortcake and Sunday, I want to go to church cause Scarlett is preaching!
