Reading…

This has been a year of reading for me…and this week-end doesn’t seem to be any different.

Picked up Dan Brown’s The Lost Symbol at the library.  The reserve list is huge – over 100 people – and the library has three copies.  I put myself on the list before the book even came out and I had to wait until now.  So, it is going to be started tonight.

Just finished reading The Virgin Suicidesby Jeffrey Eugenides.  Okay, I have to tell you, I’m not sure what all the hype about this guy is.  There was little to no dialogue in the book…which at times made the book so damn boring!   And, at 243 pages that can get old quick!

But, in defense of the book – the story line was mesmerizing!  And the ending blew me away…go figure!  Would I read more of his stuff?  Don’t know – although I do have his second book Middlesex and it is 529 pages…

Also, in the last month I read four novels about vampires by David Wellington.  Yes, I know…all the kids are reading vampires lately.

But, I gotta tell you – these aren’t your teen fiction vampires – not the handsome, sweet, loving vampires that are being written about for the 12 – whatever age.  These vampires were gross and very different…and the books were interesting.  And, they didn’t give me nightmares – even though in places they were rather graphic.

So, what have you been reading???

Friday Fill-Ins #148…

1. It was a dark and stormy night, my hands clutched the steering wheel as I traveled on the deserted road.

2. The load she carried made it nearly impossible for her to stand, so I offered to take the books myself.

3. Rushing out, I forgot my umbrella and the howling winds and rock-hard rain beat against my body.

4. Run and hide…I think I heard a howl!

5. Shhhh… it’s after midnight – time for the ghouls to appear!

6. Please, please give me something good to eat!

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I’m looking forward to reading Dan Brown’s new book, tomorrow my plans include quilting and reading Dan Brown’s new book and Sunday, I want to finish Dan Brown’s new book!!!

You can play here!

Stuff…

1)  I have been working on the candle mat I mentioned  –  it has to be at the shop by next Thursday.  Think it will turn out cute.

2) Went shopping yesterday for a couple of sweat suits – I haven’t bought any for a couple of years – and wanted some new ones to go on my yoga retreat.  Got a pretty blue one and a lavender one..

3)  Need to do laundry.  Have not been able to do laundry in over a week – as the city sent out a notice that they were flushing the lines and advised us not to do any laundry until yesterday…I still give it an extra day!  So tomorrow will be spent doing a ton of laundry.

4)  When they flush the lines I end up buying gallons of water to cook with – and to wash my dishes.  It’s probably silly – but, I’m not taking any chances.

5)  Making more of that apple sauce tonight – it turned out so good that I am really enjoying it.  And, it beats eating a bunch of candy or something as a snack.

6)  Someone asked how I made it:

Peel, core and slice the apples; fill crock pot with apple slices; add 1/2 a cup of water; add 1/2 cup of sugar mixed with cinnamon.  Turn crock pot on to high.  Three hours later and a quick stir and you have chunky apple sauce…

7)  Still don’t know what the crazy kidney stone is doing – but, am not in pain anymore – so, I’ll take that!

8)  What’s up with Criminal Minds last night – a re-run!  Just because the darn World Series or whatever that is is on – doesn’t mean that the rest of us need to be stuck with re-runs!

9)  Killian said to say “hello” – he has discovered my loom!  And, has decided it is a perfect place to sleep…right under it with his head on the bar of the stand!  At least he doesn’t play with the yarn!

Dreary…

Yep, that would be the word to describe today…

kids

Raining a lot – drove over to let the babies out to go do their business.  They were sound asleep and didn’t even hear me come in.

Then when it was time to go out – Isis Dreamweaver (the black one) stuck her nose out the door, turn around, looked at me with that look – you know the one – “do I look crazy to you” look…and went back to bed.

Zac got as far as the first step down on the deck and then a raindrop hit his nose – and he scampered back in…

They hate the rain…love the snow…but, hate the rain…

Two Days in a Row…

More fun mail!!!  Yes, I love mail!  Today, this came in the mail:

Octdcswap-stepanie

It is from Stephanie and she lives in Ohio.  We are in the Ravelry Dish Cloth Swap group – and she sent me a lovely card, a beautiful dishcloth that reminds me of fall, along with some cute fabric leaves tucked inside it, some maple tea (sounds good), and a Deep Vanilla/Pumpkin soap that smells good enough to eat.

It is fun sharing a simple dishcloth – and a little something – to brighten one’s day…

Thank you, Stephanie – you sure did brighten my day…

Good Mail Day…

A while back, Kitty at Fahrenheit 350 was having a giveaway.  She’s a candy maker…I didn’t win her big prize – but, I was on of those who won a sample.

It was so good…yes, I’ve eaten it…delicious caramel pecan log…oh, it was so good!  Creamy and nutty…I love pecans.  And, one of the things I appreciated was that she waited until the weather was right to mail my sample!

Do drop by her website…

See that block…well, it was given to us during the Open House at our local quilt shop’s open house.  The challenge to make something out of it…

Ignore the pins – they are now out – as I am doing something totally different than I thought I would…

Have decided to make a candle mat out of it…I think you’ll like it…
