The Simple Woman's Daybook…

FOR TODAY…  November 30, 2009

Outside my window… the skies are dark with clouds – not sure if they are rain or snow ones…but, I think they are rain as it has been raining all day today.

I am thinking…  that November is gone and done with today.  I don’t know where this year has gone.  Tomorrow is December – and that means 31 days of 2009.

I am thankful for… for everything.  I have a beautiful daughter, a great sister and her husband, a mother who has been there for me all of my life, and friends (both in real life and blog ones) who care about me.  What else could I want!

From the learning rooms… I am still learning how to weave…and reading my book on weaving.

From the kitchen… I have found wonderful foods that were not on my list of likes for years.  And, I am trying new recipes.  Have found that a menu is essential in my life otherwise dinner times comes and I flounder around trying to come up with something.

I am wearing… a new sweat suit – in a pretty shade of blue.  My other ones are sort of old looking – so, I bought a new one a few weeks ago!

I am creating… some blocks that need to go in the mail; and working on putting together one of my quilt guilds comfort quilts.

I am going… to need new tires.  I ordered them a couple of weeks ago – guess I better call the tire guy to see where they are.  Only needed two – so, that is good!

I am reading… Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins.  It is the second book in The Hunger Games trilogy.

I am hoping… that I get my few Christmas gifts finished.  Not making very much – a little something for my daughter and my mom.

I am hearing… The sound of Tyler Florence’s voice in the background.  Not sure what he is cooking today…

Around the house… am up to my neck in fabrics and yarn…working on little things…and enjoying the chaos!  Don’t know how to be creative without making a mess!

One of my favorite things… this week was serving Thanksgiving dinner at the local church and then spending the evening with friends.  We had a really nice time!

A few plans for the rest of the week: Get blocks finished; finish quilt top; see Mom; and read.

Here is picture for thought I am sharing…

This book is inspiring me!!!

Dinner Tonight…

Tonight Scarlett and Elizabeth joined me for dinner.  Last night I was at their house!

We seem to have dinner at least once a month or so and with them moving to Littleton, NH – we won’t be doing that very much any more.

I fixed a salad – tomato slices with fresh mozzarella cheese and a dressing of Italian seasoning and olive oil to drizzle on top.

Then I made some ham and scalloped potatoes.  I take a layer of potatoes, a layer of left over ham (from last night’s ham dinner), and a couple of tablespoons of Campbell’s Cheddar Cheese Soup (right out of the can).  I keep layering it ending with a layer of potatoes.  Then I add milk about 1/4 of the way up – put it in the oven for 45 minutes at 425!

Beet Salad…

When I was up at the Yoga Knitting Retreat – I had the best beet salad made with yogurt.  So, I went looking for a recipe…and found one!

Last night I roasted the beets and marinated them.  Then today I made the dressing.  It had the exact same taste as the beet salad I had at the retreat.

The consistancy of the dressing was thicker and I think that is because I used Greek Yogurt instead of just plain yogurt which tends to be thinner.

You can find the entire recipe here!

Friday Fillins – #152…

1. Wait! Wait, don’t forget that I want a turkey sandwich on white bread with mayo.

2. A huge bite of turkey followed at once by mashed potatoes and stuffing – that’s the perfect bite.

3. The trouble is I tend to procrastinate about making Christmas presents!

4. I wish my daughter, Tara, didn’t live many miles away.

5. With a faint pop I heard the popcorn start popping!

6. The trees around my apartment building cast shadows that are shadowy and ominous.

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I’m looking forward to having leftovers, roasting some beets, and sewing some blocks together, tomorrow my plans include joining Scarlett and Elizabeth for another Thanksgiving dinner and Sunday, I want to cook my favorite casserole – ham and scalloped potatoes – and work on quilting.

Happy Thanksgiving…

Happy Thanksgiving

to all my family and friends

Tomorrow is the big day!  And, I want to wish each and everyone of you a wonderful day.

I will be serving Thanksgiving dinner to those who are less fortunate than I am at one of the local churches here.  A couple of my friends from quilting will be helping too and they called a few minutes ago asking me to join them for dinner somewhere after we finish serving.

As for the rest of the week-end I will be having another dinner with Scarlett and Elizabeth…

And, spending time finishing a set of blocks that need to go in the mail next week and a quilt top for my Cornish quilt group.  I’ll show photos when they are done!!!
