I'm Home…

In case you noticed, I’ve been gone for a few days.  Received word that a friend of mine – Carl – was not doing well.  His doctor suggested that he have those close to him come down.  So, Scarlett and I flew to Tennessee on Sunday, May 30th.  It was a quick trip in that we had no idea until the day before.

We spent time with Carl in the hospital and waited for test results.  They did a biopsy of his lungs – the right one – is not looking good.  We learned that  there was No TB, and No cancer – only a horrible case of pneumonia.  One that keeps getting worse each time because he has such a compromised lung.

This was the second time he was in since December – when he was there for 20 days and nearly passed away.  This time it was the same…

While there we helped him make his final arrangements – as to being a DNR if this should happen again – and helped him write his will.  It was a very difficult time.

We also worked to make sure that he gets care at home when he is released from the hospital – you can’t get better if you don’t have health care and physical therapy.

When we left on Wednesday night – he was resting well.  He has since gone home on oxygen and with home health coming twice a week.  They are also scheduling PT.

It was difficult for me because I have my doubts that I will be able to travel down there again in the near future when something happens to him.  But, we got to spend time together and we both know that we care about each other…and that’s what counts.

Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers.

    It’s good that you were able to be there with your friend and help him to take care of those very necessary things. He knows that you love him and if you are not able to return, knowing that will comfort him. Keeping him and you in my thoughts. {{hugs}}

    Carl knows that you were there when it counted most. Maybe he will surprise everyone and his lung will get stronger and he can make a complete recovery. If not, don’t beat yourself up because you were there when it was important to him…and he knows that.

    So sorry to hear that he is not doing well. Sounds promising that he’s home though. Hope he can get his strength back. So good that you could see him and help him sort out things.

    I’m so glad you were able to get there to visit again, and hope in some way if needed you can make it again. I’m sure that was a difficult trip, but one that will always make you happy that you went.
