Penny Sales…

Never heard of penny sales until I moved to New England…and I gotta tell you I am addicted to them!  Love, love, love them!

In case you don’t know what a penny sale is (if you aren’t from around New England – you might not know – or you might call them something else) – allow me to explain.

The Senior Center has been having one for the last four months…I’ve won something at three of them!

The way it works is that there are gifts made up from new items, donated items, or handmade items.  When you walk in you pay $5.00 for 50 tickets (it’s more like a 10 cent sale).  Each prize has a bucket in front of it – and you place a ticket (or more) into the buckets of the things you might want to win.  Then they draw a number and if it is your number – you win that item.

Can’t remember what I won the first time – think it was a really cool puzzle and some candles.  The second time it was a gift certificate to my hair salon for a free haircut and a basket of some lovely Avon products.

Today, I won a bath basket – it contains bath products, some pretty Christmas towels, shampoo, shower gel, a poof, nail brush, mirror and a ten pack of Kleenex.  I would show you a photo – but, I haven’t found the darn hook-up to my camera and the computer (I’m looking for it this week-end!)

Penny sales are a fun way to spend the afternoon and not spend a lot of money – and the proceeds from the sale goes toward the Senior Center!

I love penny sales……they were called that in NJ where I lived for years. They have some other name (I think Chinese Auction??) in Delaware. I’ve not been to one in years, though. Sounds like you have won some nice prizes. Now… sure to find the camera thingee so you can start posting photos…want to see your new place, okay?

What a fun idea – I can see why you like participating, when you keep winning!
